When you place your mouse over the current time in the system tray, a little popup appears that tells you the current day of the week and date.
It is possible for you to tell Windows to display these days of the week in a language of your choice (provided it is supported by Windows).
For Canary to work properly, it needs to be told to recognise these days of the week (in the language of your choice as set in Windows).
What you need to do
===================
If your language is not listed in the drop down list of SETTINGS (LANGUAGE tab), then you can add your own language to this file (which should have been opened with NOTEPAD by SETTINGS), save it and close NOTEPAD. Then you will be able to select your language from the drop down list.
To add your language to this file, you will need to make two sets of entries:
1. add the name of your language to the list of numbered languages under the section [languages]. There is no need to sort the list alphabetically as SETTINGS will sort them alphabetically in the drop down list - simply add yours to the bottom following the numbering system,
2. follow the examples of the other languages below to add the days of the week in your language as recognised by Windows.
Problems
========
If Canary reports a problem with the language settings, even though you have added your language to this file, then there could be two possible reasons for this:
1. the days of the week that you have entered have not been spelt properly - check the spelling!
2. the international setting you have used for Windows does not show the days of the week when the mouse is over the time in the system tray. This happens for example with the setting ENGLISH (CANADA). To solve this problem, pick another international setting that you are happy to "live with" and that does display the days of the week as a popup in the system tray.
I suggest very strongly that you print this file, keep it safe, and then delete the instructions above - just in case a curious user discovers this file by accident. Tampering with this file can cause Canary not to work properly!
